Records, 1902-1982.

Records, mainly 1923-1957, of the Wisconsin Division of a national organization that worked for clean water and the preservation of the natural environment. The records consist of officers' correspondence, minutes, and miscellaneous administrative records. A majority of the records were created by Louis Radke, who was president of the Horicon Chapter, an early leader of the state organization, and a president of the Wisconsin division for many years. Radke's correspondence documents his involvement with the Horicon Chapter of the IWL, his work with the Horicon Marsh Game Preservation Association in the preservation of Horicon Marsh, and his presidency of the Horicon Chapter of the IWL and the Wisconsin Conservation League. His correspondence as IWL president relates to involvement with the national organization, other Wisconsin chapters, and the Wisconsin Conservation Department and state government. It includes numerous maps of the Horicon-Rock River area used in litigation in the preservation of Horicon Marsh. Some miscellaneous personal papers relate to his support for the gubernatorial candidacy of Walter Kohler, Sr. and his employment by the Van Brunt Manufacturing Co. The papers of W. H. Pugh, president of the state division during the early 1930s, include some significant letters from Aldo Leopold.
